Zirconium

Zirconium is highly plastic, silver-gray alloy resistant to corrosion.

General characteristics

Zirconium as pure metal was assembled using «build-up” on hot tungsten filament. It characteristics are:

  • Melting point 1855 °C;
  • Boiling point 4409 °C;
  • Temperature for transition to superconductivity is 0,7 K;
  • Paramagnetism;
  • Plasticity;
  • Amenable to cold and hot processing;
  • Oxidation process occurs at 200−400 °C and others.

Such properties of zirconium make it possible to work with it in various fields.

Application area

Due to high metal price, zirconium used in such industries:

  • Nuclear energy;
  • Metallurgy;
  • Pyrotechnics;
  • As structural material;
  • Medicine;
  • Household items (dishes);
  • Like a superconductor.

In metal rolling zirconium is presented in form of sheets, ribbons, rods, ingots and other products.
